Spring Renewal Smoothie

Spring is a season of growth and renewal. After a long winter the warm air is a relief. Stripping down layers, changing footwear, no longer warming up the car in the morning. It’s truly these small changes that bring me so much joy. There is a lot of excitement, motivation and inspiration bouncing around.

After a long winter, I always feel this urge to add more movement into my daily routine and start incorporating more smoothies back into my life.

You might be feeling a bit heavier after a winter of slower-movement, hearty meals and a bit more Netflix than usual. That’s okay! It’s our natural rhythm and what we should be doing in the colder months. Hibernating, slowing down and eating wonderfully warm foods is what winter is all about!

When springtime comes around we might feel newly inspired to dig up our running shoes and hit the trails, or start up a yoga practice. Whatever it is, go for it! Follow those seasonal patterns and listen to your body – it’s the best thing you can do for your health!

If you’re looking to feel a little lighter, fuel your movement while feeling that spring rejuvenation then this is the plant-based recipe for you! It will give you a healthy dose of nutrients, healthy fats and protein to nourish your body and mind.

Spring Renewal Smoothie

Ingredients

2 heaping handfuls of spinach

2 heads of baby bok choy

½ cup frozen mango

½ cup frozen pineapple

1-2 tbsp almond butter

1 tbsp hemp hearts

1 scoop neutral or vanilla vegetarian protein powder ( I love Sunwarrior Vanilla Warrior Blend!)

1 cup of water (or your favourite non-dairy alternative!) to start, adding more if you want a thinner smoothie

Optional toppings: cacao nibs, 2 tbsp coconut yogurt, 1 tbsp chia seeds, drizzle of almond butter

Directions:

  1. Blend together 1 cup of liquid, spinach and bok choy until smooth. This will help especially if your blender has to work a little harder than others!
  2. Add mango, pineapple, almond butter and protein powder and blend away!
  3. If your smoothie is too thick, slowly add more liquid until desired consistency!
  4. Add your toppings for an #instaworthy smoothie!
